Hey guys I have been out of the loop for a while with Mods.....I just got rid of my 2000 and buying another.....I have a vortex but wondering if this is the best cold air mod these days.......I have seen a Varam or something and just looking for some feedback...I like my vortex but there may be something better??????
Other Mods I have sittin in garage are corsa pace, power duct, BP mat, BP maf........anyone do the throttle body upgrade? worth while?
You might want to do a search. In the past few months, there have been a couple of somewhat heated debates on this subject. Some of the more knowledgable participants may not have it in them to want to enter another debate on the subject.
I have the granatelli super ram cold air and it is great. I had a stock box with a cut out and K&N before, which made the difference over stock, but the granatelli ram air is even better.
The more poplular CAIs all perform about the same. My opinion is that the Vortex and Proflow are the best choices for the Price, performance, and install.
Just put on a Vararam this past Friday....
Cut my hands all up...Your'e working mostly in the
blind........-10 for installation ease....
Seems to work well but you will also need some
Z06 air screens for the front of the ducts....
They will suck in everthing within about 8" when sitting still and
probably cig butts and large bugs with out them......
Dynoed after install....but never had a base line previously so don't
know if there was a gain....Plus no time for computer relearn after
install and before dyno......*It seems to be doing okay..I like it and I guess
thats what counts......It's kinda pricey tho......
Concept is good but couldn't swear to the power gains....
Putting in the granatelli super ram cold air was not that bad, took me like 2 hours since I took my time and cleaned stuff along the way, but no scratched knuckles.
For the total package, (ease of install, price and performance) the Blackwing is pretty hard to beat. All you need then for a "ram air" effect is a hole cut in the radiator shroud behind it, and you'll get all the cold air you need. Just be careful not to cut the hole too big.;)
