Default HorsePower Research - Introduction

New vendor and familiar names.

HorsePower Research might be a new name to a lot of people on here but the people behind it are not.

Erik Koenig, a name many of you have heard of and know from HKE engines in Houston has now partnered up with two others in DFW to start HPR. This will allow quicker build times, more new products, new designs, and an even better product to our customers. Erik's 20 years in engine design, building, and teaching have helped him do some of the best LS engines around. In the past couple years Erik has designed a 442 cid LS using a stock LS3 block, a 468 cid LS using a sleeved OEM block, and a 527 cid using a tall deck RHS or Dart engine block. Erik has also developed a number of custom designed pistons with Wiseco that are exclusive to him and HPR.

Anthony Forney, again a name you have heard on the forums before in the past with another performance shop. Anthony will be the main interface to the customer and dealer network as well as running the office and parts desk. Anthony's knowledge of vehicle dynamics and specific fitments will aid in the development of engine accessories and parts to complete your engine order and make sure that is operating safely and to the best of it's ability.

We very quietly opened the doors here in McKinney the start of 2017 and have been pushing out LS and LT engines since we opened. We are currently taking orders for short blocks, long blocks and a number of accessories. Our Facebook page is up with a number of build pictures. The website is a work in progress and we try to add to it weekly.

If you have any questions feel free to email, call, or PM any time! Erik or I would be happy to answer any and all questions you might have.

Two of our in house engine designs shown below.

442 CID using stock LS3 block. Available short or long post. 24x or 58x wheel.

468 CID using sleeved std deck height aluminum Gen IV LS block. Available short or long post, 24x or 58x wheel.

Along with some of our own engine designs as assemblies we will be offering rotating kits, and individual engine components for your own builds.

We already have in stock our own line of pistons manufactured by Wiseco for us, pushrods in a number of styles, lengths, and diameters, as well as our own camshafts.

In the near future we will be offering our own "shelf" grinds for popular applications but are currently grinding each cam to order to meet the customer's needs. We will continue to do custom grinds in tappet, hyd. roller, and solid roller cams for every customer if they choose to do so.

That is the beauty with the LS, even the 7.0L and the 4.8" look the same ...or in this case the 7.7L

It would seem to me that with a mild cam that it would make near 700hp.
How would a LS3 block hold up to all that Hp and torque?
Can it be done to an LS1 block?

With the proper components 700hp is hard to do, and they can do more depend on what top end is used.

The LS3 block would have no issues with that kind of power and we have not seen any issues with the OEM blocks in most applications.

Doing this to a LS1 block would have more costs and time involved since it would have to be a MID sleeve. With the 442, especially, the costs would go up since we are using a stock LS3 block.

Welcome to the forum.

With ERL out of the game, do you have any plans to do any 6 bolt blocks?

Thanks.

Of course there is always the LSx block for those wanting to go 6 bolt, and you have the new line of Dart blocks in both the Next series and SHP (which we have some upcoming builds using) http://dartheads.com/product-categor...s/shp-ls-next/. I can comment more on the new Dart blocks as we receive them and complete the builds. Both of those will be high HP turbo builds, one in a 4th gen and the other a C6Z for a customer in Las Vegas.

Thanks for your reply. I should have qualified my question.

There are some classes out there that require an OEM block. That's what made the ERL offering attractive.

I think if I were to get an aftermarket 6 bolt block, I'd look heavily at Dart or the one from Concept.

Regardless, looking forward to you posting some build threads and maybe even some group buy type stuff.
