Default Hmmmm Head Casting Number Removed????

I have a 99' C5 and I am a little confused. Someone has milled the casting number off of my head on the passengers side. I also noticed that my heads have center bolt valve covers not perimeter so I am confused.

I replaced the LS1 intake with a Z06 intake last fall and the heads looked nice and clean but not worked, I mean it didn't look like they had been ported or even cleaned up. My car has 92K miles on it and is really clean, (not as if you can tell it by the picture) so I am a little confused why some one would remove the casting number or for that matter change to a center bolt head and not change intakes.

Any Ideas?

Hard to see in that picture, but are you sure that's the correct location? Maybe zoom out a bit.
As for center bolt head, I'm unsure what you mean... watching.

The early LS1 heads, 97 and 98 were drilled and tapped around the perimeter and used different valve covers. In 99 they went to the center bolt style head and valve cover.
The 99 heads were 853 castings. The casting number on the drivers side should be just below the valve cover where it starts to curve up on the front of the head. Passenger side will be at the rear.

If you google LS1 head pictures you will find pictures of both style heads, and the casting number locations.

Center bolt VC is correct for a 99. Look at the rear of the head on the passenger side, that's where you'll find the casting #. Nobody milled yours off, you can still easily see the rough sand cast finish where your arrow is pointing.

I have a set of 799 ready to go to the machine shop for valve job, cleanup milling, new springs and ported. All work to be done by Landspeed in Indianapolis.

Next mods this fall I have an RPM stage 3 Dif. with 3:90 gears picked out to go with my Yank 4000rpm stall and a large rear mounted duel fan driven trans cooler.

Next fall will be a new AtomicAirForce ported intake, throttle body, MAF and BTR cam.

I have an LS6 intake now with CAI and a tune and that's it. Currently working on my driver mod as this thing doesn't not launch like a BBC 1966 Chevelle with 10" slicks.

Future plans include trans upgrade and 6.0L I just picked. I have a lot of reading to do.

When you're finished with all those mods,I think you'll be happy with the launch. One of my first cars was a 66 SS Chevelle,so I know what you're talking about.

Yes the heads are 853 thanks for the help.

Diff & stall going in about 2 week from now.

The list of parts has changed a little. After my track run (13.36 @ 105 shifting myself like a dummy and hitting the rev limiter at 1000ft and not trusting the Diablo 93 octane tune). Driver mod needed. LOL I had the balancer death-wabble so I replaced it with a light weight 10% under-drive ATI balancer part number 917266 (Aluminum Shell at 7.34 LBS not 9.75 LBS like the Steel) you can also tune the damper for the power level by replacing the o-rings.

I Bought Kooks Long Tube 1-7/8" and X-Pipe and a set of Z06 Tit axle-backs, a full Vararam setup, 85mm MAf, HPTuner Pro, AEM X-Series Wide Band, Nitto NT555R's (305-35-18) a few weeks back. After the diff install I have some work to do. Hoping for low 12's high 11's next year.
