Default Newbie Question

Now I have been searching but cannot seem to find a good answer. Now I don't quite have it yet but i am in the market for an 04 Corvette z06. Anyways I am hoping to buy a stock z06 and maybe engine swap it too a lsx 454r and i was wondering if it is possible? Now i know the lsx is a total race engine with the capability of withstanding up to 2000 hp worth of aftermarket parts. Just cant seem to find whether or not it will fit in a stock 04 z06. I'm not very seasoned when it comes to cars but an answer describing why i would/would not need tons of money to swap it too an lsx 454r would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply! how much do you think that engine swap would cost? Would i need to buy a new transmission or anything to withstand the power of the new lsx engine?

Just curious why you want to do that unless you're buying a car with a bad motor or you're going racing . . . have you driven a Z ?

Just curious on your thinking . . . .

Well I haven't quite found a certain 04 that i wanna buy so replacing a bad motor isn't the reason but I think mostly i would love to have the extra power and maybe every once in a while take it to a strip.

I like your thinking ~!

I think you'll be surprised with the amount of power available in the LS motors and how readily you can add even more power reasonably. It'll push you right back into the seat in relatively stock form.

Good luck in your search.

To make the answer brief, YES. You will have to replace virtually EVERYTHING to handle big HP. Transmission, rear differential, axles, torque tube, clutch, etc. The stock unit can "maybe" handle upwards of 450-500rwhp (sometimes more but a lot depends on how much you beat on it) but when you start going over that, you've got to anticipate that you'll be replacing things as they break. And they will break... I like your ideas, yes the LSX will drop right into the 04 and for the most part, it will look almost stock as the blocks are similar looking. My build isn't that much different from your ideas. I've got a 418 LS3 in my 98 but I've also got a built trans and rear end to handle it. Also, the C5 axles are strong. With the Novi 2200, I'm at 650rwhp on an extremely mild tune and 7.5lbs of boost. The forged LS3 would easily handle twice that much. GL with your ideas and projects.
