I tried to reset the tpm sensor per the tech tips and it would not reset.I tried three different magnets to reset it,anyone know what is wrong?
The magnets varied in size from a small one to a large on from a speaker.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanx
I've only reset mine once, but as I recall there was a certain sequence to follow. Seems that I started with the left front and went clockwise....but that is so vague in my memory that I wouldn't bet that it is right.
Someone will be on to set you straight. If not take this thread to the top and I'll look it up for you in my service manuals.
I looked in Tech Tips and found the following directions for setting your tire pressure monitors. I think if you follow these steps exactly, you will get them set.
Mark
---------------------------------------
1) Turn ignition on
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages
3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the
display options until the IPC display is blank
4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds
5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears
6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in
order to begin the programming
7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool
(large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem
8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed
(if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will
give you three tries. Then you must start over)
9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the
following order as directed by the IPC messages:
-Learn R Front Tire
-Learn R Rear Tire
-Learn L Rear Tire
MDT thanx
I get to step 7 where you put the magnet over the valve stem but the horn does not honk.I dont know if I'm using a strong enough magnet or not.
Do you remember what kind of magnet you used?
I just bought a small ceramic magnet at Radio Shack and breezed right through the set up. If the horn doesn't honk you might try moving the magnet around the valve stem...some have posted that it helps.
Lots of members have done this so you'll probably get some more responses and maybe one of them will be exactly what you need.
If it won't reset the tps itself could be defective or the battery has simply gone bad. How old is the car?
or it could still be that the magnet is not strong enough but a Speaker magnet should do the trick, it worked for me. Try it again if it does not work move to the next wheel and try that sensor. If any of the others will honk the horn then you probably have one or more bad sensors. If none work I would try to find a stronger magnet. If that does not work it is probably something more serious or all you sensors are dead.
I have used a small refrigerator magnet several times. Works great. I just move it in a small circle right behind the valve stem. Be sure to follow the sequence on the DIC (LF, RF, RR, LR) or it will not work. Hope it works out
Went to the dealer and tried to reset it,but it would not reset.Put the magnet on the right wheel when it said to reset left, horn honked and I got a reading from the right on the left indicator now and no rear pressure's.Dealer said it was a bad sensor and 150$ to fix it. You cannot skip a wheel if you have a bad sensor :mad .
I just did mine today. I bought some round magnets from Radio Shack. I did the procedure a couple of times. The horn would honk after each tire but I wouldn't get a display. I went out and on the way back I noticed that my dic didn't flash and the tire pressures were displayed. Maybe try driving the car a few mile after you set the stems.
