i do, but in this case im getting something like a holley 165-552. they come in 10 - 150 micron, i believe. some less expensive ones are 30 micron, for example. so, what do i need for a filter after the pump?

I'm trying hard not to be sarcastic, but if you're truly looking for meaningful information (which there is a LOT of, on this forum), it would be helpful if you tell us what you're trying to accomplish, up front, instead of in little bits and pieces.
Your initial question makes it look like you're just wanting to know the filtering capability of an OE fuel filter, not that you're designing an entire fuel system upgrade.....
if somebody can answer the original question, that would be great.
alternative question: what kind of filtering do fuel injectors need?
(you know, the world is getting more and more complicated. there used to be filters and prefilters. that was it. now i have to deside among several alternatives. its just like when i started smoking there was one kind of marlboro. now they make 6 variations of marlboro red.)

are you building a fuel system or running a stock type setup and what pump(s)?... at one point I was running a 255 in tank pump with the sock pre-filter and stock post filter and an a1000 external with 100 micron pre and 10 micron post filters... now I have 2 walbro 450s in the tank with sock pre filters and a single 10 micron post filter... from what I understand you want a higher number micron pre filter and a smaller number post filter... surface area and inlet/outlet size are also things to consider
yes, im adding an inline pump to the 255 and my "research" shows, that oem use filters even finer than 10 micron, as feeder pointed out. so im going with this:
