Rattle with low oil pressure and a leak I cant find.
I have a 383 stroker motor in my C5. All forged internals, big cam , ported and polished trick flow heads 225cc, kooks hedders with mid pipes. Been 3 years since the build. About a year ago I started hearing a slight , what I thought to be a lifter tick which got a little louder. Then my son came over and wanted to go for a ride. Got back , did a badass burnout for him and the tick or knock was gone. Yes the oil was full. Now to the present. Was driving it, got into it and bam, the rattle was back but a little louder. And had a oil somewhere on the passenger side getting on the exhaust. I limped it home while watching the oil pressure which was at 25lbs. at 1600 rpm. Then it dropped at idle to around 10-12 lbs. I've parked it and havent messed with it. Oh, it would developed a slight miss at idle but had full power if I got on it. Could the oil pump go bad and create the rattle I'm hearing? And the miss at idle has me a little bewildered. It has a melling high pressure pump In it. I like to do all my on work if I can. Any ideas guys? Thanks
Well I've run into both of those issues. My oil pressure problem ended up being a simple mistake I made. Had to pull the motor back out and send it to the builder. New bearings and all that good ****. Decided to go with the Moroso high flow versus the Melling. Heard horror stories about Melling! The knock I had was a broken Harland Sharp roller rocker arm. I think the intake was stuck closed which left me with a dead cylinder. Good news there was Summit warranteed it and gave me new parts free of charge. Installed it and replaced a bent pushrod. Runs good as new to this day. It's a pretty good easy starting point to remove the valve covers and check the rockers. Good luck!
