I have a question. Harris County (here in Texas) is one of the 3 Mtro areas that now has dyno testing (I believe in ohter places this is called IM240). However, this testing is only for pre-95 vehicles.
Any car with OBD-II gets hooked up to a computer. My question to any of y'all in a state with similar testing procedures. Did they hook up a 4 gas analyzer to your tailpipe along with the ODB-II scanner.
My reason is as follows.
If they aren't sniffing tailpipes, and you tune a car with LS1 edit, in theory you could run as mean a heads and cam as you want, as long as it isn't throwing codes, and the computer reports that it is within specs.
Just curious what folks had seen in real world testing.
Im not sure how extensive the OBD-II emissions scan is. In other words, it may do diagnostics, and make sure codes arnt turned off etc. I havent seen anything posted conclusivly just exactly what it probes besides just looking for emissions codes being set.
I have had two hot cars tested in Dallas County. They just do a visual, safety drive and plug in for OBD 2 codes and off they went. One even had an ASA cam 230/237 lsa 106. As long as you are programmed and have no OBD2 codes you should be good :seeya
It's true. It's just hooked up to the computer, nothing hooked to the exhaust. As long as it doesn't throw codes, you're fine.
They have the same thing up here and like my mechanic buddy told me, "Just a quick adjustment to the computer and you could make any C5 pass emissions." ;) :yesnod:
