What sort of noise would metal end links make over little ridges in the road?
Might they be noisier with a firmer, or a softer suspension?
I've been trying to track down a metallic noise present in my suspension. It has existed only since adding coil overs. I checked each piece of install and find nothing loose. I've banged around with hammers and rubber mallets to recreate the noise but not been successful. Though I focused on the coil overs and A-arms themselves. The noise persists such that going over big bump makes no noise but hitting the little pavement separations makes the metallic jiggle noise very briefly.
I'm open to ideas before I get it all and reinstall the coil overs.
My end links started after the C6Z06 shocks and C6Z51 sway bars and always at slow speeds.
I ended up installing new endlinks because my theory was the shocks and sways exposed them as a weak link (pun totally intended). I also had a problem with the exhaust hanger springs. Took some lithium grease and sprayed them real good. Been pretty quiet since then.
This is the first time I've experienced these parts wearing out. Interesting. For such a low cost, I'll definitely replace and see what effect they have.
How do these pieces wear out? The ends are sealed so they should stay greased. The grease ages out maybe?
Think of them like tie rod ends. Except they have double the ends. The boots get torn, the grease dries up. Click clack whackity whack. I think it was 50 bucks for the pair. I only replaced the rears since they were the noisemakers.
Have you tried to tighten the end links? I had the same sound you describe, and they where not loose, but when I tightened them a little more it was gone

I just changed these in the rear on my 97 with 58,000 miles yesterday. The original plastic links were toast. The boots fell apart when I took them off. The new aluminum links I got from Cultrag are things of beauty.
Took the car for a spin and the car felt more planted cornering. Also eliminated the rattle in the rear.

If installed properly, the adjustable links are set so they are neutral (no pre-load) with the car on the ground. When set this way the rod ends can rattle.
If you slide a piece of fuel hose over the copper bushing/spacer just longer than the bushing it will keep the rod end from rattling.
