Any real benefit...or downside to addin an X-Pipe?
Also, why is it that the Bassani X-Pipe actually looks like an "X," whereas the Corsa X-Pipe looks like 2 pipes just welded together, no actual "X."
The benefit to adding an x-pipe is that it mellows out the exhaust note and gets rid of some of the popping sound on deccelaration if you have any at all. Bassani vs. Corsa question= IMO they're just different designs but serve the same purpose.

The X-pipe allows the two exhaust flows to evenly merge to smooth out the exhaust pulses and cut down on the burble and popping noises. It replaces the stock H-pipe which is pretty ineffective since the exhaust flows have to turn ninty degrees to meet, therefore, the X-pipes were made to replace them. Yes there is a difference in design between the Corsa and Bassani, with the Bassani pipe offering much greater diameter for the two flows to merge and even out, so it should be a more effective design. But IMHO, the best design out there is actually the Magnaflow X-Pipe. It looks like the Bassani pipe except that the pipes have a better angle to merge the exhaust flows, so it is the one I went with. I talked with lots of Vette owners, and several Forum vendors, and most agreed that the Magnaflow offered the superior design. I am very happy with my Magnaflow X-pipe, it was very well made, it eliminated the exhaust burble and popping and was easy to install. Shawn at LAPD, one of the Forum vendors gave me the best price. The only downside to the x-pipe is that since is was so well made, it actually weighs 1.5 pounds more than the stock H-pipe. The stock H-pipe weighs 10 pounds, and the Maganflow X-pipe weighs 11.5 pounds, but it was certainly worth the tiny gain in weight.
You might want to consider a true off road x-pipe that will replace the cats and produce some HP/torque if it's installed up close the the exhaust/ header flange..Take a look at my setup on my home page. I got the x-pipe from www.breathlessperformance.com....ask for Lucy or Ernie and tell them I referred you..:D
I installed the Corsa Daytona Pace Car system from West Coast Corvettes and was told by them that the Bassani X-Pipe was discontinued (it is still in their catalog) and I went with the Magnaflow. It looks much beefier than the Corsa X-Pipe and so far I'm very pleased with the sound.
There is some popping when I downshift under load, but no gurgling at idle at all.

I stopped at the Bassani stand at Corvettes @ Carlisle last month and they were pushing their X-pipe. I just got one from Xtreme last month. It's nice with the Corsa Indys - nice mellow idle, no motorboat sound people complain about.
