rEAR END WHINE??????????????
I put a new 3.42 in my car with solid diff mounts. The rear was OK. I drove for 350 miles and then started to whine gradually when under light acceleration. Sounds like a dentist drill at low speed. The noise is gone when you lift your foot off the pedal. It does it in all gears. Removed and replaced with new rear end. Drove it 350-400 miles again noise comes back. I drove and parked it with no noise then drive it 3 hr. later instant noise. I checked the fluid level. The oil is clean. Checked with the diff pump running oil level fine. Two bad rears? Leary about racing it. I don't want to by a third rear. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks :cry Sounds like a ring and pinion gear noise not a bearing.
Think that your noise problem is coming from the solid differential mounts. They will transmit a lot of noise to the chassis and into the cabin that you would not hear with stock mounts. The noise level in a diff will change as the unit heats up from use and clearances change. I had the same problem in a C-3 racer. Run the snot out of it and do not worry. :D
i have 4.09s in mine. whining for years. They have taken a serious beating. but the only damage ive seen are replacing busted u joints. Rear didnt have a problem at 190 mph either. But its better to be safe than sorry.
