So I had the classic "Pull key, wait 10 seconds" and "Service Column Lock" so I went ahead and purchased the Column Lock simulator and installed it, that got rid of the messages. I then tried the unlock cable but it does not unlock the column lock. I checked the cable for voltage and the cable seems OK. Kind of lost what to do next since removing the steering column trim involves removing the steering wheel.
Am I right to think that when I plug the unlock cable in to the column lock contact and power it using the cigarette plug I add power directly to the column lock motor?
If so, is the column lock motor broken or can there be an other component involved?
...and yes, I have read the Sticky.

I just went through the wait, count 10 sec..... I was sent to these folks....Not only did it work but the support (Richard) was over the top.

Thread starter doesn't have an LMC5 installed but rather chose to go with the older CLB solution so his problem likely is NOT the same as yours and unlikely Richard can help with the CLB and NOT the LMC5.......
Learning something new every day-Thanks 8vette7 for the heads up

when you apply power to the column lock you should hear it unlock if it is locked....
you can always pull the fuses, disconnect the battery for a few minutes, reconnect and try again although I installed a few of these and never had the issue where the column wouldn't unlock when power was applied.
I would find it odd that you would have enough power to lock the column and do other things yet not enough to unlock the column

Like 8Vette7 said, it's not the LMC5, got that one first but it didn't come with an unlock cable so I went for the CLB instead. I can add that this is an EU model and that I live in Sweden. Parts are not as easy to come by as in the US.
managed to get the trim panels around the steering wheel off yesterday and used a rubber mallet to tap on the column lock motor, after alot of tapping and som force the wonderful "dzzzt" sound came and the steering wheel unlocked. Disconnected the negative battery node and installed the CLB. Re-attached all the panels and switches, finally back on the road!!
