No.. The pan has to come off, which is really only possible with the motor pretty much right out of the car... Honestly, it isnt that much bigger of a deal to pull out the whole engine if you already have the car all tore apart... You would need a cherrypicker though..
Sure can :yesnod: Just remove the craddle to remove the oil pan, pull the heads and you are there...I replace the rings with the motor in the car and it is less time consuming compared to removing and reinstalling the motor...
You are joking, aren't you. Our shop has a lift and we only use it on vans etc, when the engine has to come out the bottom. twenty years and 10,000 motors and have been doing it wrong all this time...I know it can be done, but it sounded like the person who asked the question was probably going to attempt this job in his garage on jack stands.
Maybe if your superman i.e. C5 TECH, but if you don't have super powers like most of us, you should just yank the dang thing!
BTW: pulling the body work is totally optional.
Well I can tell you first hand it can be done.. I was my dealer a few months ago. They had a guy in there that hydolocked his motor (Witha STOCK INTAKE) but I digress....
Anyway, the motor was completely open. I was was looking right though the cylinder walls to the floor... It was like looking at open heart surgery
And yes the block was still attached to the motor mounts..
