Default AIR Removal

Hi. I have a 2000 corvette and I would like to remove the AIR pipes and associated hardware/items. Any tips, pro or con, on this task? Also, anyone have pics or know of a good thread? Thank you in advance.

Adding headers or just removing? It takes nothing to operate, so if it's working kinda no advantage of removing. Although I still would.
Do you want to do a full removal of the pump also, or just plug the lines?
Willing to remove the intake manifold?

it makes plug changes easier and looks much cleaner, that alone is enough to remove it in my opinion... it will also save a little bit of weight if that matters... it's a pretty straightforward process, just unbolt it everything and if you are reusing the stock manifolds you will need block off plates for the fittings on the manifolds and then have a tuner remove the codes so your cel will be off and still pass emissions for state inspection... the only thing that gave me a problem was the pipe that goes behind the engine that is bolted to the driver side head, mine was on super tight and I could not get enough leverage to break it loose so I just cut the pipe as short as I could and when I had the intake manifold off I was able to remove the bolt and short piece of pipe

Default Air

I already have anaftermarket BBK intake. I just had ARH HEADERS W/AIR provisions installed but dont like way it looks. Where do I purchase block off plates and can the piping and pump just be rmoved? Could it really be that simple?

I think you can get knock off plates on EBay, otherwise Summit etc. Remove all visible tubing in the engine bay, the one behind the manifold is impossible to remove without the manifold being out. I've tried. Cut mine a bit shorter, but it's still back there.
Next, follow the air supply tube down to in front of the DS wheel. You will have to remove a small panel.
From there you will have 2 hoses to take care of. One large air supply tube that comes from the air intake (you would have encountered this with the BBK intake install). This needs to be plugged so dirty air doesn't get into the motor. It can be plugged at the pump, but cleaner looking would be at the intake.
The vacuum line also needs to be plugged, I did this at the front, but you can trace it the canister (I will likely eventually).
Finally, you need to get somebody to tune it out.

To remove all the piping, you have to take off the intake manifold to get the crossover pipe out.

Also, it is better to have the AIR tube connectors on the headers cut off and welded closed rather than use block off plates. I can't remember which but one of the major header manufactures found that block off plates will eventually fail from vibration. Also, I would think the headers with block off plates would look worse than just leaving the AIR system in.

You can either leave the AIR pump in the car or remove it. It is located in the bumper on the drivers side and can be access through a plastic panel in the drivers side front wheel well.

When I removed my AIR system when I put my headers in I did not set any codes from removing the system but it is a good idea to turn the codes off in your tune to keep any possible CEL from coming on.
