03 coupe. auto trans change
Have to replace the current 4l60e . I have another unit which I will install all the good components so this does not happen again. I have read the factory manual comprehensively on the R&R. I have been a mechanic for over fifty yrs and do not look forward to this job. My question is: Why do I have to remove the driveshaft tube? Looks like I Can get the rear suspension out of the way and pop off the differential. The the trans looks to be right there with bolt access. Where is my logic and reasoning incorrect? Would appreciate any constructive advice. This really has me bummed. Thanks, RH Factor kh400

No need to remove the torque tube. Done it too many times.

Just unbolt the torque converter from the torque tube and drop the trans and diff as a unit. The trans can be separated from the diff after they are on the ground. I think that's easier than separating the two while still in the car but it can be done both ways.

Thanks to all. I think I will be able to manage it now. Bad year, just got through hurricane irma,but we are still alive, so on we go. Thanks again.
