Default lets make some Crossbeam adapters

well I have the need for some and the HF ones that i eyeballed i would need to modify and two would cost me $70 or $80 , I can buy the steel for about $27. so i have been looking at all of yours and measuring under the car and asking a couple guys questions about theres and this is what i came up with...

so here we go, I bought 2x3x1/4 rectangular tubing , and i had 1/4 plate laying around, the pads are 3 5/8 x 6 3/4 and the end caps hang down 1/2", these weigh about 20# and i have not put a jack shaft on, i am going to try just resting on my jack saddle

took about 45 minutes to cut everything with a cutoff wheel and about an hour to tack it up

i am going to do a full mock up with more then tack welds but less then full seams and will test it. i think i will add gussets to the pads sides just because i can....

capped ends so the jacks dont slip out

and they also fit the smaller jack stands

and yes these will get up pretty high

Nothing wrong with doing it yourself but remember time is money.

well if I bought them and had to modify them i would still have time in it....i could buy them pre made and they would be perfect right out of the gate.

i enjoy doing these as fun projects so the time really isn't an issue for me. now the mrs thinks its time misspent but not me....

Why do you need them? There is no requirement to use them when jacking the car or putting it on jack stands. All you need to have is a jack stand with a head on it that can bridge between the fore and aft parts of the front or rear cross members so you have two edges supporting the weight Vs one.

Pretty cool. If I had a welding machine and knew how to weld might do same thing. Meanwhile 2 x 6 s are doing it for me.

Looks good to me.

Stuff like that seems so useful it must be fun to build, and gives me a desire to weld.

Then I remember I don't have any welding stuff and do have a lot of other stuff .

Still, if you make up some light weight stuff, for free, of course, I could use a set. Until then, I"m useing oak doorsills , cheaper than oak boards, my car is lowered, or I would use thicker and cheaper wood. This is marginal for the lifted weight.

well i dont dispute that but i dont have a pair of jack stands that will span a 5" gap, my 6 ton jack stands which are pretty big have a 4" span so i would still need to span the gap. this seemed to kill all the birds for $27 and under two hours, it spans the gap for both lifting it up and for putting jack stands under it.

add a couple gussets and this thing will never deflect.

for you other guys if you are inclined i would recommend buying a MIG welder they are a blast, they have all different price points and even the 120v ones are pretty good these days. I like welding for fun and have have all the welders TIG, ARC, MIG, 0/A and spotwelder. i think they are blast to toy around with . so was this an excuse to weld.... sure it was....i love to weld and make stuff, but it also fit the need in a pretty durable fashion.

That is true. But sometimes solving the tooling problem is just one more fun part of doing my own work.

And then comes the next distraction/detour.

i have had several PMs about the dimensions of the cross beam adapters so here is some more reference shots, the tape is 3 1/2"

so overall height to bottom of rear cradle is 19", and its 16 5/8 to the bottom of the cross bean adapter
