I was just wondering if anyone has built their own Heads/Cam packages. I just seem like there are alot of great Chevy heads out there that no one uses.
Re: Has anyone built their own H/C package? (OHoneC5)
Do you mean, put together a set of some shops allready ported heads, with a cam that you pick out?
Or do you mean porting your own heads and getting your own cam?
Not sure what you mean by a lot of great chevy heads out there. The only heads that will fit on a Generation III engine like our LS1's and LS6's are the 4.8/5.3 Truck heads, and 6.0 Liter Truck head. And of course LS1 and LS6 Heads. The only other option out there, is the mucho expensive C5-R race car heads, but they require custom porting out of the box, and also a custom fabbed intake manifold. No other chevy engine heads will work with GEN III motors.

I took my heads to some guys that are pretty good and had them do them. I took them all the parts and they did an awesome job (they wouldn't use the 918 springs though and insisted on the 941's)
I picked out a cam (had to do a lot of homework) myself.

I did all the port work on a set of used LS6 heads, ordered up all the new valves and springs and such. I had a machine shop with a flow bench cut my seats for the new valves, cut the heads per my instructions to yield 67cc chambers (to get my 11:1 CR) then flow them for me. I did a lot of homework on cam profiles, ramp speeds, lca's etc, then had Comp Cams custom grind me my 'dream cam'. that took a month to get all by itself. I put all of this on a new iron short block (built by Shirl Dickey, owner of SD Performance in Aguila, Az). the motor has been in the car and running for 2 days now and is a dam BEAST. this combo turned out better than my expectations, and i'm not even done doing the Edit tuning (which i am doing myself, also). Is this what you mean by your post title?

I put together my own H & C package. I ended up with 420/399 on the dyno with very little tuning. My combo has another 10-20hp left in some refinement of the portwork but I am too lazy to finish it. If you have any specific questions drop me a line.
