Replaced the alternator a couple weeks ago amongst all the other things I replaced when I did the balancer job. It’s been fine the whole time prior to today. It started whining when I got home today. What’s puzzling me is that I’m not losing any voltage, & the whine does not get louder as rpm’s increase. It’s obviously the alternator though, I listened to it with the engine running & the hood open. Thoughts? It did come with a warranty & I plan on replacing it. Just curious as to what you guys would say about it.
Did you buy the C5 specific alternator with the duty cycle for the PCM? Not the "yes it's the correct part number for the car" but "yes it's the confirmed C5 replacement with the correct duty cycle." The C5 has a specific alternator that is different than other actual alternators that share the same superseded and cross-over part numbers. If you just went to a parts store and bought an alternator you like bought the "wrong" one.
Hopefully you didn't trade in your core. It's typically advisable that you just have your old alternator rebuilt as that will retain the duty cycle for the PCM.
