Installed the Hypertech III on my '02, A4 w/blackwing & stingers. First, I changed down to a 160 degree thermostat from the stock then spent 20 minutes running the 1st download...
This thing is fun, though not cheap. You can easily change running parameters and instantly feel it whether passing or motoring around town.
So far I've settled on Performance tuning, 50% shift firmness, 160 degree fan cooling adjustments w/no change to RPM or Top Speed Limiters. What I'd like to ask those who have programmed before me...where have you have been happy with WOT shift points? If you could post what RPM you found worked well in each gear, that could help me baseline my first adjustments...
Overall, this is a quick way to tune your engine. Just make sure you keep it in the trunk in case you need to go to the dealer for service. You must uninstall your programming before servicing. If the dealer overwrites the Hypertech code, you could be in a world of hurt...via software conflicts that are costly to repair.
Re: New Hypertech III- Installed this weekend:) (Alpharetta Dave)
I had it on my 99 TA and really liked it. With my ported MAF, the car would detonate with the stock program. With the performance program, that all went away and the car gained about 10/10.
Don't worry about the dealer overwriting your program. They did it to me and I was able to restore the tuning I had in there, and kick the delaer in his #$^%@#$^. You get a little different message, but it works. I would take out programming though, so they don't see it. :smash:
Re: New Hypertech III- Installed this weekend:) (cor99vette)
I bought a used Hypertech for my '99 a few weeks ago, but have not installed it yet because I have to take the car in for some work. I bought it mainly to lower the fan turn-on temperatures and to firm up the shift points. :yesnod:
I have read that the power programming was designed for a stock intake system, and that if the car has a ported MAF, etc. then the programming might actually make the car slower. I called Hypertech and the guy I spoke with agreed that this could happen. But you say that you're getting good results even with a ported MAF?? This would be good news to me because I would like to use the programming if I can use it with a ported MAF, etc. :yesnod:
I wish we had some before and after, with and without, times to compare.

I have one for 400.00 plus shipping first come first serve (01-02). I cant use it with my ati procharger power tuning. I got it direct from Hypertech last week as a beta tester to evaluate it and am done playing with it.
