Default Why Such A Bad 1/4 Time??

Hey,

Went to the track last friday...Prob was about 80 degrees outside.
I wanted to test out the Pilot Sports...Lowered the pressure in the rear to about 25.

Before with my XR1 and Tric with Runflats I ran a 12.98 so I was hoping for a nice consistent 12.xx passes.
Ran 4 times....all 4 times 13.4-13.3 :cuss

This was my best time:
2.115 60ft
1/4 13.380
107.44 MPH

Why is my MPH high enough for 12s but the car not getting it?
For next week what should I do??
What Tire pressure for front and rear?
How much of a burnout?? Ive heard some say big burnout and some say just spin them a little bit just to shake anything off of them. Which is better for the Pilot Sports.
Another thing is...I race at Capitol Raceway here in Maryland and you have to go through the water...no way around it, but when I got the 12.98 that was also at capitol and had to go through the water...so I have no clue whats going on!!!

Any help please!!

First.. you 60' is high. On street tires you should be able to get 2.0 with some practice. Is your car an auto or manual? I would put your fronts up to 35 and rears at 25 or so. Do not do a lengthy burn out, unless you want to put on a show. The P/S are soft. If you have to go through the water, then do a small burnout to dry the tires. Is first 60' of the track wet since you have to drive through the water?

Your 60 ft. times are not good that is why you did not run the 12s. Are you having traction issues out of the hole? Your MPH is good so you are losing to much time in the first 60 feet.

OK US.

You probably ran the 12 when the air was good. Maybe in the spring or at night. If its in the 80's there, the humidity is probably high also. Based on your HP mods, intake filter, those numbers are correct.
I have about the same mods as you with an '02 A4 and I can run a low 13 at one track with low temps and elevation and .75 sec slower at a high elevation and temp track. Wait until November and you will be back into the 12's. Oh one other thing. You will gain a tenth if you keep the water temp below 180 Deg prior to your run.

Good luck... Mike Villeneuve

I have a A4....I didnt notice any traction problems.
The track isnt wet...its just that everyone has to go through the water not just people with slicks.....Everyone must.

I dont think I am having traction issues...just not getting such a good launch I think I revved it to about 1300 RPM...should I try harder?

My best 60ft was a 2.03...but with that run I didnt get the 12.9...so my 60 for the 12.9 run was 2.0-2.1

Also there was one other difference I forgot to mention between my 12.98 run before and my new times with the new tires.....with the 12 run-I had the car in Trac/AH off....with these new runs I did the burnout in Trac/AH off than switched it to Comp Mode to do the run....that make a difference between the runs?

thanks

US,

I race at Capitol, too. Like you said water is not a problem especially if you smoke the tires on a burnout. I know a lot of people say don't do it, but it works. It will get rid of any rocks, dirt and water you may have picked up and it will soften the tire. I had pilot sports on my 2000 coupe and it worked for me.

The weather has been crappy here lately. This past weekend wasn't too bad, but if we could race tonight we would see some really good times.

Also, how do you drive your car on the street? Do you drive it in what I call "Fuel Economy Mode" or do you drive it in "Full Race Mode"? This especially applies to the last couple of hours before you race.

While Ranger would argue with me about this, I run with both traction control and active handling OFF. He prefers to leave active handling on.

The harder you can launch without tire spin, the better. But once the tires spin, you can kiss a good ET goodbye.

Hope to see you at the track. There will be a bunch of Vettes at MIR on Nov. 9th for Test & Tune and the Gamblers Race.
