What is this wire?
I took my console out to do the re-solder trick on the AC and replace a few burned out bulbs and found this wire wrapped around the ignition key hole. It's been cut and sealed. What is it? Should I leave it the way it is?

Wire from the key pellet reader in the key cylinder to the BCM. The key pellet is read by the BCM as a part of the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) and the value read then compared to the stored value in the PCM. If there is a match the Theft Deterrent Relay (TDR) is enabled and the engine is allowed to be cranked. If there is NO match then the TDR is NOT enabled and the car cannot be cranked.
If VATS is working on your car leave it alone. Not factory for reasons known only to a previous owner.
Perhaps the wire was accidentally severed and repaired?????

Looks like the previous owner cut the wire and spliced in a resistor of the correct value to bypass the VATS for some reason. I can see the other end of the wire hiding up by the back of the ignition switch in your picture.
