E-Z Way to Remove Bushing Sleeves
I discovered this trick when trying to remove the bushings in my 91's rear end. You need three things: a vise, a short bolt with a head the same diameter as the OD of the sleeve, and a socket with an ID greater than the OD of the sleeve. Put the bolt in one side of the sleeve and line the socket up with the sleeve on the other side. Now, put all three pieces in the vise and clamp it down until the vise stops. Undo the vise and you'll see that the sleeve has been pushed out of the bushing by about 1/4" t o 3/8". Now, put the exposed sleeve end in the vise and clamp the vise down firmly, but do not try to break your arm! Here's the fun part--start to turn the strut rod around in a circle. For some strange reason it will begin to "unscrew" from the bushing. If not, a small prybar might have to be used to get things started. I remove the residual portion of the bushing with a Berz-o-Matic touch... after a while it will burn by itself and at some point can just be pushed out with a screwdriver. It's a good idea to do the burning in a cheapie aluminum pan from your local $1.00 store! It will catch a lot more burned rubber than you'ld expect.
