I have a 2000 coupe with 280:000 miles and have the same issue
I thought it was the throw out bearing but upon taking things apart I found it to be the front bearing of the torque tube
Now I’m looking for a replacement torque tube
It seems the 6 speed torque tubes run 2 -3 times higher in cost than automatic torque tubes
thanks C5Jim - nice to know what it is finally - much appreciated

[QUOTE=pewter99;1595993016]rebuilding is not that expensive, its the labor to remove and reinstall that costs the money, new bushings and bearings are not that pricey[/QU
guess I'll try to find someone to help with the work....
