Default Rear Diff Fluid Change - Is it REALLY this easy?

Hey Guys,

Any tips, tricks or gotcha's you can warn me about or is it REALLY this easy as shown in this video?

Also - my C5 is an 02 with 55k miles - when is it recommended to change the fluid?

Thanks!

It' easy, did mine at around 45K. More about the age of the car than the miles.

Yeah, pretty easy. If you remove the fill plug before the drain plug the oil drains smoother.

Specs: 1.8 Qts 75w90

L09: Limited slip identification: tag under cover-attaching bolt. Models with limited slip use 4 oz GM P/N 1052358 additive or equivalent when fluid is changed.
OVQ: Synthetic oil is required.

It's also a good idea to remove the fill plug FIRST, just to make sure that it will come out. It wouldn't be too cool, to drain the gear oil, and not have a way to pump the fresh oil back in.....

Doesn't Mobil1 gear oil already have the additive? It seems like it did when I changed my C3 fifteen years ago.

the old famous "drained it all out but can't fill it back up" dilemma

Did mine a couple of months ago. Did it then because of what sounded like a diff. wine....wasn't the diff. it was a right rear wheel bearing. Took care of the wheel bearing and no more wine/grind etc.

gear oil is thick.if you warm up the oil first it makes it a lot easier to pump in.
i wrap the bottles in foil, set them in the oven in an old pan, turn the oven on to 350.as soon as the oven hits 350 take the oil out.it should be right around 100 degrees and it will pump easy.
