I just installed my SLP long tube headers this past weekend. I have to say that these headers are awesome. My 99 vette currently has the stock cats and mufflers(A&A mod). No welding is necessary on the 97- 99 vettes. Although I did not take the car to the track to test it yet, I really do feel a difference. It pulls a lot harder in the mid and upper rpm ranges. My car has always been plagued with a terrible top end and always seemed to die out, but no more thanks to these headers. I picked them up from TBYRNE because of his awesome prices. I had the headers at my house in two days. If you are in the market for long tubes then you should consider the SLP’s. Check them out at slponline.com
They are stainless steel and coated inside and out. The installation kit SLP sells for these headers has everything you need and is well worth it. I plan to go to the track soon for testing and I will post the results if anybody is interested. By the way, I had the pleasure of speaking with the SLP sales team and engineers. This is a class operation with superb customer service.
How was the install? These pipes make a lot of twists and bends. Is there any clearance issue in the engine compartment? How's the clearance around the spark plugs?
If you go top SLP's website you can find the complete instructions listed under the product. You have to remove the plugs and pivot the motor a bit, but they will slide down with some effort. After they are installed getting at the plugs is not a problem.
Congrats on the install. I realize it might be hard to tell with the A&A exhaust mod, but is the car much louder with the headers? I'm actually a fan of quiet performance, so I'm wondering how headers would change the cabin loudness in my coupe if I added them but otherwise kept my stock mufflers and full cats?
I don't like my car to be too loud either as I don't want to bring attention to myself. The car is louder under WOT, but has real nice deeper tone then before. I very happy with the sound. They are well worth the money if your looking into headers. My friend was the test mule for SLP. He had the RK sport(TPIS copies) at first then the SLPs. He dropped another 1 1/2 to 2 tenths at the track after the swap.
Yes Mike, Dennis, Artie and I did a little wrenching. I would like to hit raceway Friday night, but I gotta check the schedule and weather. I wish you luck with that new converter. I know you will be in the twelves now. Don't forget to tell the wife you need a few grand for a cage......
Headers are on my list for 2003 and SLP is on the short list. Since I just bought the SLP Loudmouths from TByrne (delivered yesterday! :D) it may make sense for me to buy the SLP headers from them too.
hey...
any of you guys around on a sun afternoon?
i'd love to hear what they sound like w. aftermkt exhausts & or headers.
i'm getting the corsa indy's myself.
Snide,
I agree with you. A full SLP setup should be an easy install and with those loudmouths.......LOUD
Lighting,
If the weather is good I will be visiting the Rt 18 flea market( East Brunswick) for the vette show on Sunday. I can show you my car with the SLP headers, stock mufflers and cats. Let me know.....

Tony
I also have the SLP install. I have SLP from the LT's back to the loudmouth, dyno is tomorrow so I will post results.
Do I understand from reading these that long tube headers for the vette will bolt right up to the stock cats? I'm a relative newbie, so thanks for indulging me.
There is an installation chart provided by SLP. I bought my SLP setup from Tbryne who had great prices and service. They have the chart online at: http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/c5/C5.pdf
I believe you will need to do some cutting and/or welding with stock cats depending on the year of your car.
I can't wait to dyno tomorrow. Hope I am not disappointed! :jester

Forgot to mention. I did SLP all the way for 3 reasons:
1) I wanted all slipfit/bolt on. I have no cut or welded pipes.
2) SLP pipe's are 3" all the way back to my exhaust. Stock and
many aftermarket are 2.5"
3) SLP also had an Xpipe with resonator that fit my already installed
loud mouth. So I decided to get the hi flows to make #1 and #2 TRUE.

In general, no. The stock cats are welded in place along the exhaust pipes. The only way to get a system that doesn't require cutting and welding is to buy a complete exhaust system with aftermarket cats from SLP or FLP. You could add a flange to the stock pipes leading into the cats, but that would take some welding.
