Hey guys! I have an A4 and was thinking about swapping my 2.73's to the 3.42's. Most people are getting ~2200 at 70 mph and ~2500 at 80 mph. I love the rpms I'm getting now, which are ~2000 at 80mph, so I was wondering if it's possible, or even a good idea, to make the overdrive longer in the A4 to try and preserve those highway rpms. I really want to make the swap, but I'm trying to keep the car in a place where I can still take it on long trips and open her up on the highway. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions given here!
NOPE.. The 4l60E is a .70 ratio in 4th. There is not a different planet avail for
this trans.
I have the "performance ratio" 3.15 with my 2000 A4. I really like it.
You may just want to search for it. It's a good compromise if you need to
keep your highway driving rpm's reasonable.
3.42 with 3600 stall, plenty of other mods to go along with it, lots of long highway trips as well.... fuel economy suffered a bit with my recent cam change but no biggie, it's not an economy car....
Thanks all for you replies!
I'll check that link out today.
I'm not too worried about the fuel economy, but rather the endurance of the engine. I'd like to keep the rpms as close to stock as possible, but we'll, sometimes you have to sacrifice for a rip-roaring take-off speed lol.
