Default How do you replace valve guides

I have new blue valve springs for the LS6, trunnions and the tools to do the work. As I read over the forum I found a lot of guys change out their valve guides, also. I plan on using a compressor hose to keep the valves up, do I simply pry out the old guides and replace, or is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks.

You will need to remove the heads and get a reputable machine shop to replace the valve guides.

Did you perhaps mean seals?

The OP most likely means seals as the guides are fairly robust and require machine work.
The seals sit under the springs and just pop off and tap the new ones on.
It is a good idea to change them and they are not expensive.

I'm sorry for the miscommunication. Yea, I meant seals. So, it's an easy removal and install from what I understand. Just pick and push.

Thanks for the help. I think I have the right numbers.

Intake valve seals - 12482063
Exhaust valve seals - 1248206

Take care.

You do need a valve spring compression tool and you need to ensure none of the valves drop into one of the cylinders. But you probably already knew that.

Yes, I have all the tools. I've read a lot about the spring replacement and the trunnion upgrade, but forgot the seals until I read about "while you're in there" thread.

Thanks everyone for helping out.

Super simple to do it. I used channel locks but any players that can grab the seal will just pop them off. Then put them back and i used a deep socket that fit to press the seals back into place.

Just FYI the OEM sintered valve guides are not available. The only aftermarket replacements are bronze which will not last half as long. You'd be better off buying a new set of heads. I know this is not the original intent of this thread, but if anyone comes looking for valve guide info, I figured I would add my $0.02.

At less then $200 labor to replace the guides at a machine shop and another $100 for the guides, why buy new heads?
