98 fuel door actuator
Since I've owned the car (about 8 months) I've had to use a string to extend the pin to keep the gas door shut.
Well I had to drive it several days ago and it needed gas. It was 4 degrees and when I hit the button to open the door it wouldn't open, I pushed it several times thinking there was something frozen on the door but after I got out and tapped the door several times it still wouldn't open.
So whomever owned it before must of had the problem as there was a string to pull to release the door. I pulled the string several times before the door opened.
After I gassed up I pulled the string to extend the pin to keep the door closed and it seems stuck. So again I pulled several times and it would not extend. I was going to give it a viagra to see if it would extend but didn't...lol
Got home and got my finger on the actuator and it wouldn't extend then I tried to tap it with a screwdriver and still no go.
Does anyone have an idea? Is it possible the switch is stuck on?

Could be moisture got into it and froze and/or the return spring is broken from rust, etc (very likely) and broken piece(s) of the spring are jamming the plunger pin. Broken springs are not too uncommon. Rust.
Do a search on this issue. You can swap the spring out (from hardware store) or replace the whole unit. Either way you'll be removing the LR wheel and the wheel well to get access.
