Hi all, I have searched long for details regarding replacing the bulky a4 shifter assembly with the much fresher looking c6a6 assembly (I prefer oem look). I have seen a post or two from members putting the a6 **** on the a4 assembly, and I may have to resort to that, but I plan on attempting to replace the entire assembly. I realize the base in the c5 and c6 shifter assemblies are somewhat different but I believe that can be remedied, or I plan to attempt it. I have tried to compare the actual shifters and have only found one difference, other then 2 of the mounting points being different, I think everything else is a drop in replacement.
For folks that will be critical, I know I am going to lose 1at and 2nd gears and that the D and S on the C6 shifter will be the 4th and 3rd gears, but that does not bother me. I think there is a greater chance of me getting bit by a shark then ever using 2nd or 1st.
I want to know if anyone is tracking whether this has been attempted. I have seen 2005 c6a4 replace with a c6a6, but haven’t seen the a6 assembly on a c5.
1) has this been attempted before? Details are welcome
2) any significant difference between the a6 and a4 shifter assembly’s that I am missing?
