Default Problems with key fob - Have to re-sync daily. Help.

Title pretty much says it. Seems like the problem started when I got my Top Down Commander. Could be coincedence though. Sometimes I'll go to unlock the car and get no response. Holding down the lock and unlock buttons for 7 seconds causes the horn to beep and then it works fine. May only work for a day or two and then I have to do it again. It is getting annoying. :cuss any ideas or help out there?

Thanks,
Matt

That's what mine did when it started to go bad. I put a WTB up in the classifieds and got 2 new ones for $40 (my car is a 99). They both work fine. My old one works sporadically still, so I keep it around in case of emergency.

Like many others here, I have the Top Down Tech Window Valet and I don't have that problem, so I suspect the malfunction you're seeing is a coincidence.

Do you think it's possible that you your fob battery is getting old and that's why it's not syncing? Maybe that's also why a new fob, complete with new battery, fixed the other chap's problem? Just a thought.

That's what I thought too, but a new battery didn't help. Fob had the same symptons.

Thanks all! I too replaced the battery with no luck. Guess I'll use my other fob. Where can I purchase a new one to replace my old one?

Thanks!

Put a WTB up in the C5 parts for sale section. You can also check Ebay. I asked the dealer and those foos wanted $170 for the fob and "installation". You should be able to get one for around $35.

It sounds like the key fob battery contacts are losing contact with the battery (possible when keeping the fob in your pocket as the case may be seperating ever so slightly). Another thought is you bent or broke off a portion of the battery contact when you replaced a battery. The battery contact is quite fragile.

You can try a simple test to see if it is the battery contact. Rescynch the fob and then lay it down. The next day try the fob and see if it works.

I am having this exact same problem right now and I too find it very annoying..

I replaced the battery and it didn't seem to improve it at all..

I guess if it is definitely the FOB that causes it, then its time for a new FOB.

How much was this unit? Whichever is most expensive is probably the one broken on my car! :D

In the Manual there is A way to reprogram the Fobs. Not just reset which is holding the buttons down for A few seconds but this covers total reprogramming. My Manual isn't here right now or I would look up the page # for you.

It's page 2-12 in the PDF manual.

If it's the same in the paper one, you'll only find out when you, or someone else, looks. It's under the heading "Fob Training" in the index and the page is entitled Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle if that helps.

First is this problem only occuring with one fob? Does the second one work OK? If so then it is definitely a problem with that specific fob.

I went through this for a while on mine, replace the battery etc. no help. So I took it apart one day and found that the crystal resonator for the transmitter was unsoldered on one end, causing an intermittent. This is a black two lead device, one of the larger parts on the board. I soldered mine back down and it's worked fine ever since.

Might be worth a look if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Good luck

ProDesign has the most likely solution. The battery loses contact briefly and the fob is no longer sync'd with the car. Open the fob and clean the battery and contacts using alcohol. Then pry up the contacts so they put more pressure on the battery. Be very careful not to over bend the contacts. Close the fob tightly all around. This solved the problem for me over 2 years ago. Good luck.

I had that problem with mine, I tried to reprogram it throgh the DIC and that did not work. I took both of my fobs to the dealer and they did replace it under the factory warranty. If you are still covered under the warranty, take advantage of it.
