Default rear hatch / one side pop's up other side doesn't

No key fob.
I hit the dash switch and drivers side pop's up, passenger does not.
I have heard something about tightening a cable to release a part on the
hatch. In the past, It would open by someone (wife) hitting the switch @ dash and me bumping the hatch. Now, passenger side will not release
at all (not good for her getting groceries, etc.)

Any ideas on permanent fix. Looks like I,m crawling under hatch to take something apart to open and then fix problem.

This forum is great. Iv'e had the 99 for 8 years and owned vettes for 40 years. You guys have helped in a lot of different tech stuff.

Thanks

Have you tried lubricating the latch that's hanging up and then exercising it ?
Maybe hitting it with some WD-40 first and see if it frees up and then spraying the mechanism with some Lithium White Lube.
Worth a shot !

its not a lack of lubrication most likely, I had the exact same thing happen to mine and it was just a failure of the trunk latch assembly, likely the electric motor. Get the replacement, its like $40 and took all of 8 minutes to replace, no exaggeration.

be careful spraying stuff on it, if memory serves, the motor is underneath the latch, you don't wanna fry something on accident.
