if the TOB is toast you might as well get it all replaced, labor is the same

cost between 1500-1800 parts and labor....at least thats been my experience with my C5 and C6Z06...at a Corvette performance shop NOT a dealer.

where are you located so maybe someone can point you towards that option near you

The car only has 40k miles though. It’s all his the transmission was driven I guess to determine the miles you will get out of it. For the sake of argument, how much cheaper would it be to get a new pressure plate and throw out bearing?

Are you sure there is something wrong?
These cars do make noise..then the noise will go away once pedal is pushed in. Mine chatters then disappears when pedal is pushed in. My car has 31,000 and my clutch is perfect..

Are you sure that is the way it was designed?

When you press the pedal you are causing the TOB to engage with the PP fingers, otherwise it's just hanging out on your input shaft. If you hear a noise with the pedal not pressed, it may be something else—maybe pilot bearing.

Is there an adjustment for the pilot bearing ? What I’m trying to eliminate is the possibility of getting hosed for a job I don’t need to get done as a result of my lack of knowledge. I don’t mind paying good money for a job being don’t right.

Not really...the PB is either installed correctly, or it isn't.

If you're not sure, I'd pay a specialist to diagnose. Should be about an hour of shop labor. Chances are decent that if they diagnose that it needs to come out, and you use them to do the work, they'll throw that in with the rest of the labor and not charge you separately for it.

That said, if you need to replace a pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, the slave, or any of the torque tube couplers or bearings ... you're looking at nothing short of a full clutch job.

I mean, sure, you can save a few bucks by not doing the full clutch job, and maybe your clutch will last you another 100k miles. Or maybe you'll hose yourself and have to pay the same labor again way sooner than you like to replace something else in there.
