My c5 fusible link from the alternator to the starter is going all wonky. If I jiggle it I get a overcharge message and my dash goes out but I am not over charging. It's the original starter and wiring which looks old and corroded. From alt to bat 14.6 even though dash states 18. Its the only wire if I jiggle that triggers it. Ignition switch (new) no issue with wires, alternator (new) no issue with wires.
I seen from searches that I can and cant replace it. Can I cut the old one out and replace it (crimp and solder)? Some searches said I cant that I have to buy a new harness.
If I can is it just a 10G fusible link wire to replace it with? Done this a many of many of times of fourth Gen Fbody's from headers burning them.
Wasn't easy. Thought it was one thing and then another and then another. So 6 months later and many things replaced thought problem was resolved. A test jiggle jiggle and replicates issue.

Have you checked, cleaned and tightened the connection at the starter solenoid? It is a common point of failure in the alternator-starter-battery chain, especially with headers in the equation.
Its a new starter. Was replaced to see if the solenoid was causing the issue. Issue went away until the wire got jiggle again over a speed hump last week. Connection feels tight until to jiggle the wire.
