Cable is broken. I do not want to remove intermediate pipe and tunnel cover. Thinking about making my own access hole on the drivers side of the console with a three inch hole saw to get to the cable bracket. I think I can lower the exhaust at the transmission enough to get my hands to the transmission bracket. Is anything else securing the cable to the inside of the tunnel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Probably there's no need to replace the whole shifter cable. What usually happens is that the bushings are gone and they are the only things that need to be replaced.

All you need is the Dorman 14057 kit. Use the white bushings (the orange ones are for Ford):
And this video shows you how to do it.
Thanks, guys like you save guys like me a lot of money.
The bushing at the shifter broke and in the process of fixing the bushing, I broke the cable.
I tried to remove the exhaust manifold nuts but they are too rusty.
Have read all the posts and videos on how to replace the cable.
Just wondering if anybody had any tricks. Thanks

If that's the case take a look at this thread, especially Post 1 and Post 4. It seems it can be done even without having to cut an access hole as you mentioned.
