More information is needed.
What year?
Does it have the manual or dual zone HVAC controller?
Is the issue with which set of vents air is coming out of or is it cold on one side hot on the other?
Are there any HVAC codes?
To get the DTC codes follow the instructions in this link;
I am not the OP, but I subscribed because I thought he was talking about a problem I have also. What I 'think' he meant is that that when he grabs the little black vent diffuser lever (on the vent itself... right where the air is blowing out) and slides it side to side, the little vanes don't move anymore.
On my passenger side, that little lever moves only the center vane. If I want to move any others I have to reach in there with a screwdriver or something and move them.
In this picture, the lever is all the way to the left, and so is the one vane it still controls, but all the rest are still pointed to the right.
