Mystery Heating issue
- Air from interior vents smell like antifreeze sometimes
- Interior smells strongly like antifreeze when the car has sat for a while, not running.
- The coolant reservoir was very low after sitting in storage over winter. Since filling it last month, it has stayed full.
- Carpets are dry, no apparent coolant dripping onto carpets.
- The engine bay doesn't smell like coolant (not that I've been able to tell)
- When you turn the heater fans on high, an abnormal vibration is heard from the dash, like a powertool that's out of balance. I assume the heater blower motor or fans are having a problem and are causing that sound, but air is still successfully blown out of the vents.
- Heater doesn't consistently blow hot air.
- When the coolant is 180 degrees, the heater feels more like A/C than heat.
- When the coolant is 220 degrees, the heater finally kicks out heat
- I'm not even sure it consistently blows heat at 220.
- I raced my car all day at the drag strip yesterday, and the coolant reservoir is right where it was before I raced: full.
Many have also said that the heater core could be fine but the system is just dangerously low on coolant... Then why was my reservoir completely full before and after a full day of racing, without any overheating?
I've heard that the reason for no hot air blowing is because the blower motor is failing... But air flow is still blowing out of the vents!
Is there somewhere else the heating system can fail on these C5s that I'm not aware of? Ahhhhh!!
