Just thinking outloud here. Not something I would do to the current car since I need to get one that will be reliable.
What would it take to replace the key ignition with a push-button ignition? I already have a security system which comes with a keypad security. That part is not currently installed, but I can add it when I remove and re-install the security system on the new one. I'm thinking I would either need to wire in the correct resistor or hide one of the keys behind the dash to make this work. But I thought it would be a little different to have the button instead of the key ignition.
Has anyone out there done this yet?
The only drawback I see would be in the valet seat / steering wheel movement not working. I'm sure I could figure something out though.
I saw an implementation at ces last year that was as follows:
The Keylock cylinder was relocated, and filled in. The lock cylinder then was fixed with the key in the cylinder and on.
a few relays were used in conjunction with a microchip pass key (or your key panel. The last relay was wired with a push button to the start side of the lock cylinder.
This seems like a cluge, but there was no good way for them to start the vehicle without the computer seeing the pellet. :)
I work for a supplier that is doing the oil cooling system and the frame for the C6 (AKA GMX215/245). There was a rumor that 14 GM engineers were let go for talking about the C6 engine valve train. It is some pretty trick stuff!!
