Engine knock sensors or outside temp of 100 plus degrees on a Z06? Which gives the computer most retard?
Well, quick answer 100-degree weather vs. cooler weather with knock retard, 100-degree weather loses. Not so much about knock retard. You can drive the car in 100-degree weather and not have knock retard, but with a stock tune, the PCM pulls timing at 100 degrees IAT. So it's pulling timing because of the temp separate from knock retard. Add knock retard and it pulls more. So just driving around the 100 degrees IAT is already pulling timing. Cooler IAT temps it does not pull timing. Besides, a properly tuned vehicle should not have knock retard. There are a few tables that pull timing just to keep the vehicle from having knock retard.
Depending on how much knock an engine has depends on how much timing is pulled. So you would have to have a lot of timing advance above what it should be to have a lot of timing being pulled. So the answer to your question is... depending on how the car is tuned, it could be either. But looking at it as a stock tuned car, 100 degrees IAT is already pulling timing so it pulls more.
