Default C5 Led lights

Ok today I installed new LED's on my C5. I bought them from Headlight Experts. Both lights work but now they won't close. If I take 1 of them out the lights will close. I don't know how to fix it. Any help??

I bought some LED lights from amazon and the cooling fan on the bottom of the bulb was interfering with the linkage to open and close the headlight doors. I assume you have checked for mechanical interference?

Yeah, I put the first one in and try it. they opened and close perfect. Put the second one in and both worked but they wouldn't shut.

Something you might want to look at is the part of the housing where you place the bulb, and turn it to lock it in position.

I had a hard time removing the old bulbs on both sides, because the bracket that "holds" the bulb in place was tightened to much, and the bulb wouldn't turn.
That bracket is held on by a couple of screws.
Had to remove the entire light housing to loosen the hold down which keeps the bulb in the housing.

When I installed the new led's, I was careful to make sure the bracket with the screws was neither too tight, or too loose.
I think if it were too loose, and putting the new bulb in was an "easy" turn, that bracket is too loose, and the rear housing on the new bulb would be sticking out too far, and cause interference with the headlight doors closing, or opening.

Just something to make sure of when installing new bulbs.
This is the bracket that holds the bulb in place.

I copied it from another thread

Do a quick search here and you'll find threads on this. The headlight closing sequence is triggered by a change in current going to the headlights. Your new LEDs draw so little current that shutting them off does not cause a large enough change in current to trigger the headlights to close. It's a common issue when installing LED headlights.

This is correct. You will need resistors in order to get normal operation back. Happy to help if you'd like.
In the mean time, flash the high beams when you try to close them and they should close for you (as long as the high beams are halogen bulbs still).

Guess I must have been one of the lucky one's, because I have never had an issue with the doors opening, or closing since I installed my led's.
Like I said above, the only issue I had was the bracket that the bulb slips into was so tight, I couldn't get the old bulbs out to replace them with the led bulbs.
Once I removed the entire housing, adjustment was easy.

It's typically the vettes equipped with the twilight sentinel option that have the resistance pickiness. I would guess that yours does not have the twilight option on it.

Shoot over a PM with your email and I can send over an invoice for you. They plug right in-between the factory connector and the LED. Super easy install. They only be $10.

They emit a pretty good amount of heat (they have to use energy to add resistance some way) so I always recommend mounting them to a large piece of metal or using zip ties to suspend them in the air (you don't want them near plastic or wiring).

These are the ones I bought on Amazon.
They work perfectly, and no issues with headlight doors.
