Default 98 Traction Control is no fun

In researched all the issues a purchase of a 98C5 could cause me? This site is invaluable as a resource. I believe there was a thread on here that was really insightful and a big help.
So I have had my car 4 years. One thing that I can't stand is the traction control. Mine has no button on the console to turn it off. When i tell Corvette owners this, they look at me like I'm nuts. This has prevented me from having fun many of times. The panel on the console that usually houses the button, doesn't have a button. I had The console out recently and there IS a plug and wires that plug into the bottom under this buttonless panel. I havent been able to find this buttonless piece anywhere. Did they make them this way? Was it some kind of deterant to keep a young driver from making a mistake. Is it possible that if I get panel with the button that my car is able to shut off the "grandma mode".
Please help

I wouldn't shut it off.

Just tune the traction control.

How do you tune it. If it spins the smallest amount it kills the power. Can't see what she will do in the quarter and sure as heck don't want to take a chance of a challenge at a light.
Please share how to do it? Do you know if the button is supposed to be there?

Do you have a pic of that console? I've never heard of one without the button to turn the system off.

You could always buy another small console piece that has the button installed, and plug it in to that pigtail to see what happens.

This is what I would do. All c5 from what I can tell came with the traction control switch circuit. The connector under there is the circuit. Connect a switch to it, It should work. Traction control can be tuned out with tuning software, but then it is off all the time. If the switch works you will see the TC light on the IPC as well as the message in the DIC.

Somebody has "got at" your car - traction control with the switch was standard on all C5's. The '98 drivers handbook even advises turning it off if necessary in snow.

That's weird. Hook up sme kind of momentary switch to the pigtail and see if it works. Would like to know what you find out.

The traction control button is on your center consule and not on the dash It may not say TRACTION CONTROL but may say Stabilitrack OR something else
As mentioned the simple fix is to have a tuner simply delete the Traction control---However GM never allows you to delete it all---it always leaves some in place ---but it will be hugely different--just be careful on a wet road !!!!
PS deleting TC takes more than a simple one line entry in your tune--A competent tuner knows all the appropriate tables involved in the delete

The traction control button in the console does not have any letters on it. It has a mini drawing of the rear view of the car with wiggly lines behind the tires. It's a simple off/on button. Hook up a switch and test it out. You will see a warning in the instrument cluster when you turn it off. And when it's off, it's completely off.

Ok. I am Glad to hear I'm not the only one that felt this is a strange button NOT to have on my car.
Here is a pic

Picture of the underside showing the wiring connected?

Your description of the wires connecting under it makes me thing that panel was wrapped with leather or vinyl that is just covering the button. Feel the surface and see if there is a button below the material.

FYI, you can tune out the engine power being cut, but you can't tune out the traction control applying the rear brakes.

That panel is a solid piece of plastic and is one piece. I have had it apart when removing the console. This is how I know the wires or pigtail is there. Damn thing actually plugs into the bottom under where the button would be based on photos I’ve seen. I have located a panel complete with switch on eBay. For $25 and free shipping, I’m in. When I take it apart, I will take pictures of this buttonless wonder. I will let you know what happens. happens. Thanks for all the insight.

Interesting, but odd. The p/n on that piece is the original GM p/n for the bezel with switch for a T/C only car. So, it appears to me that the switch hole was filled in for some reason.

How does the finish compare between the 2 switch panels? To me, the finish on the picture you just posted looks off compared to what I'd expect a factory GM one to look like.
