im a new c5 owner I have a 2002 corvette it has 124,000 miles the car is well taken care of only thing is that the car starts and it runs for a couple minutes then shuts off if I had to guess maybe 10-15 minutes tops when it first started shutting off I thought maybe battery so I bought a red top optima I also got some new coil packs and spark plugs and the spark plug wires but it didn’t work then one day I started it until it shut off and I sprayed some starter fluid and the car started then shut off again which leads me to think it’s maybe the fuel pump but I wanted to know if anyone had this problem ooh also it has a new fuel filter
Could be from any number of different causes, some of which will set a code and others like a failing fuel pump that will not set a code.
Easy and free way to start diagnosing the cause ( ie avoids throwing more parts at a symptom and not getting positive results) is to pull the codes stored for the car.
If you have never pulled codes on your C5 here is how:
Pull and post ALL the codes including the H or C or HC that follow each 5 character code. List the codes under the sensor that they show up with. ise 10 - PCM or 28 - TCS or 40 - BCM ..... etc .....
If any sensor has NO COMM next to it report that also.
I would specifically pull the codes the next time the car stalls BEFORE you turn off the ignition key. To pull code when that happens it may be necessary to use the RESET button to clear any messages from the DIC and then pull the codes as normal.
You can also have the fuel pressure checked or check it yourself if you are a DIY type person. Most parts stores loan tools including fuel pressure gauges for a deposit. The pressure should be around 58lbs when the engine is running and should hold that pressure for many minutes at least after the engine is shut off.
i can’t seem to find out what the 10-pcm p1638 code is
P1638 CHEVROLET - Generator 'F' Terminal Circuit Conditions
Possible causes
Faulty Generator (Alternator)
Generator harness is open or shorted
Generator circuit poor electrical connection
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) programming
Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

that one came on when my crankshaft positioning Sensor went out
Do you own a scan tool ??...Even with a C5 a scan tool is a necessary to perform basic engine diagnostics. This way at least we can have some direction. With the car shutting off like that I’d look at fuel and ignition...you’ve changed the crank sensor ??

yes I’ve changed the crank sensor and I have a brand new starter maybe 2 months ago it was changed but I will get a scan tool to try that out and see what it gives me
Typically if an engine starts and runs for awhile and then all of a sudden it starts and dies It is related to the antitheft system--An 02 car is 16 years old Your key has a hidden OHM resistor built into it As the key wears out the OHM resistor will not allign correctly into the ignition switch and you will get intermentant fuel shut off and dying
I would try your spare key if you have one Otherwise if this in fact your issue any locksmith can cut you a proper key
Now if you have a failing fuel pump that is something else--no car will run if the fuel pump not only has enough pressure but enough volume of fuel--Again it is not un common for a 16 year old car to need a new fuel pump----These are from my experience the largest faults that are casuing your issue--It is your choice on which way to proceed 1st
As far as it possibly being fuel pump related I’d do a voltage drop on the circuit and also current draw...with a scan tool you can see if your upstream O2 sensor goes lean during WOT....or snap the throttle with a fuel pressure gauge connected to your fuel rail and see if the pressure drops...you have some volume issues with your pump then !!
