Hi Guys, I'm getting the"hatch Ajar" message in the DIC when the hatch is definitely closed, and the interior lights stay on all the time, draining the battery. I just searched the forum for everything to do with the hatch but I didn't find any answers. Can someone tell me where the electronic hatch switch is? One post said that this might be faulty. I have the rear panels off and the locking mechanism exposed but I don't exactly see the switch.
Note that I used some powdered graphite on the lock mechanism the day before this happened. It's also rained constantly here (Orlando), but nothing looks wet. The car is a 2004 Coupe. Any suggestions are very welcome, I can't quite figure out how to attack the problem.
this sounds dumb but.....open the hatch and remove the catch from the hatch and see if you can use that to trip the lock mechanism and see if it is actually working on both sides....maybe just one is working and the other is staying open
they are easy to remove if you need to take it out for a better look..

Ok, I'll give it a shot. I'm thinking that I may have gotten a bunch of powdered graphite in the switch - but I can't find the freakin' switch itself. Evidently this is it (pic below)

Thx, Ethan
you may end up pulling the latch assembly out...its only 4 nuts...the bolts are attached so they shouldn't come out
