Hi...the display on the temperature control screen of my 98 C5 has been dim for some time and now has gone totally blank. So I can't see what temp I'm setting the a/c or heating at, nor the fan speed & outside temperature.
I did a search online, and someone had posted a detailed procedure on taking it apart, but it involved some fine soldering on the circuit board which I don't trust myself to do. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and what you've done to resolve it?
It's like item 2 on the 5,431 known issues list. If check again tonight after dark you'll find it's ever so slightly still there. You can bring the temp display back by re-soldering 8 reisisters, or for a very reasonable sum you can have the resisters resoldered and all the lamps replaced, multiple sources for the repair, but Dave's Corvette Illumination at http://c5led.com/ get's many good reviews. If you really want to do it yourself: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...splay-fix.html
Or check a local PC repair shop or TV repair place. They commonly solder on temp sensitive boards and will likely do the deed for a very reasonable price....... Bring them the tutorial and it is a 5 minute job.........
One Forum member just had the early year FOB soldered for about $20 at a local PC repair place......
good point there are lots of those U Break I Fix places that fix cell phones that may be an option
I just resoldered mine last week as it was getting pretty dim & I'm about to take it on a road trip. It wasn't a bad job at all to remove it even if you prefer to have someone else do the soldering.
