Default AAA Shocks?

Ok, so a while ago I bought some used C6 Z06 shocks & sway bars. I know everyone installs the shocks for an upgrade, & I got the sway bars off the same car for a pretty good deal. Well, turns out that people don't recommend them as they are too stick. I have 20's on my car, so I decided not to install the sway bars as the car rides hard anyways. Another reason I didn't install the shocks was when I got my car, the previous owner said the shocks were just replaced.

Well, now I'm getting curious. My car is a 97 with the F55 magnetic suspension. However, it doesn't work. At all. Changing the switch does nothing. Nothing is hooked up, the little cables that attach to the control arms are all disconnected or broken, & the box in the back hatch inside the cubby hole is completely disconnected. No CEL. So I'm going to assume it's been disconnected.

Then I checked to see what shocks he put in, just for curiosity purposes. I cannot find these shocks guys. I have called around, no one knows what these are. I found one. One shock online on ebay for $25. $25!! Super cheap. So now I'm thinking these shocks are super cheapo shocks & maybe that's why my car rides so terribly. Here's what I found:
AAA
D555604
150805

I am now going to be installing the Z06 shocks & will probably throw the sway bars on for grits & shins. Just curious to see if anybody knows anything about these shocks. Thanks guys!

I did a search, and the only thing I could come up with was this AAA shock from eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-NEW-AAA-D...kAAOSwgQ9VxqZb

Looks like this AAA shock was made by "Drive Tech America" for Honda. In any event, I think the prudent thing to do would be to replace them.

Yup! That's the same shock I found. Only 1. 1. So these are obviously cheap or just not worth anything. Crazy. If this fixes my issue of my car riding like death, I'm going to be so mad at myself.

My guess is that your ride is going improve dramatically once you get rid of the AAA's.

what do you mean riding like death?

usually old/dead/worn out shocks have no compression left and you get massive float...is your car really floating?

as soon as you take them off you will know if they are the problem

I did lower the car, put a 2" lowering kit on it due to the rear bolt broke while I was driving. That sucked. Thank god it happened about half a mile from my house. I was trying to find another bolt & gm doesn't sell them anymore, couldn't find stock online. So I bought the lowering bolts. They are cranked to the max height in the rear. Front is like halfish.

When I say rides like death, I mean I try to avoid cracks in the road. I feel everything. I accounted this to the fact that I have 20" wheels with rubber bands all around.
Rear: 285/30r20
Front:245/30r20

On the positive side it probably looks cool. JMHO
Thank God I'm stubborn & an idiot with a craigslist problem. So I just got done installing them. Let me tell you. Huuuuuge difference. The old shocks were pretty soft. Took some force to compress, but not nearly as much as the z06 shocks. The AAA shocks don't have the travel that the z06 shocks do, so maybe they were bottoming out? Idk.

I would be totally ok with raising the car. If I can find some stock bolts that are cheap. The headers scrape on like every speed bump. It's awful.

Idk, I like the look. Some people don't. Good thing I didn't build it for them!

sounds like you were at the end of the compression range on your old shocks. i am glad it fixed the problem. i live in a place with speed bumps so although i liked the look of the car lowered slightly i raised it back to normal ride height so i could drive it.

do you want to know for sure? i can measure the ride height and compressed height of base shocks, that i just took off and swapped for z06 shocks
