Default Definitive method for fixing floppy mirror housing syndrome??

I know there are several techniques for fixing floppy mirror housings. Since I have not been around in awhile and need to fix two mirrors on my 97 I just thought I'd ask whats the most popular method for fixing this issue. Any links would be great.

Most people repair floppy mirror housings by using hollow treaded rod from 110v ac indoor lamp kits. I used a dermal tool to grind on round post that mirror housing sits on, so locking washer can grab better, and used small gauge wire to compress spring, also JB welded locking washer. The last time my driver side mirror housing came loose, I used gorilla glue on the round post that fits into the housing, do a search on this site, lots of info on this.
