Default Car did something weird last night

2004 CE convertible
I went to the grocery store yesterday evening. I was going to put everything in the trunk. Pressed the trunk button on key fob. Nothing happened. Pressed a few more times still nothing. Pressed the unlock button. Doors unlocked. Opened driver's door and the alarm went off. Pressing unlock would not stop the alarm. Started car. Alarm stopped. Now everything is working fine.
Have 2 codes
U1255 Serial Data Line malfunction
B2860 Telescoping Column Position Sensor Failure
Both history
Any ideas about what would cause this or if I should be concerned.

Put a new battery in your key fob.

Bob.

Ha! You are probably correct. Didn't think of that. Both fobs still have original batteries from when I bought it new in 2004.

Moved to C5 Tech.

And please post up if the battery replacement solves the problem.

Replaced batteries in fobs. Cleared codes. Problem has not recurred. Fobs have much better range now. Thanks for the advise.

Both codes were under SCM.
