Default Cracked rim: repairable?

They noticed this crack as my car was getting rear end work done. Is this repairable? If not, how can I tell which wheel I should order to replace (is this chrome or polished)?

I would say no, it's not repairable and it shouldn't be used. The wheel is a thin spoke, polished aluminum wheel. Don't know if there is model name for it - probably not. You might find one for sale in the parts for sale section. Otherwise, look for a matching wheel from one of the many wheel vendors on the net.

that could be fixed pretty easily by a wheel repair shop... we have sent off wheels in far worse shape than that and they came back looking new... another option would be to find a used oem wheel in the for sale section

I respectfully disagree, lots of wheel repair outfits now. That's an easy repair- they'd just weld it, then refinish it.

To the OP: Get a few quotes- it might be cheaper just to replace the wheel. On the other hand, that wheel looks pretty dirty inside. May want to consider refinishing all your wheels if they're in bad cosmetic shape. I had four 18" BMW wheels redone for my DD- they were all curbed and previous owner never washed car, so brake dust started ruining the finish. Came out like new- about $500 for all 4. Well spent IMO.

Ive repaired many like yours over the years. Just take a cutting disc and cut a groove right in the crack, then weld it up. On another hand, i would not repair my personal wheels on MY CORVETTE.

Contact this place. Wheel Collision Center, Bath, PA. www.wheelcollision.com or 610-837-8792. They will fix your wheel perfectly and make it look brand new. They do phenomenal work and you can send them your wheel. I've used them and have been amazed. (near Allentown, PA.) They also might have a replacement wheel for sale.

I had my wheel repaired. It was also a thin spoke. It's been 6+ months and still doing ok. I'd rather have replaced it, but I couldn't find a single wheel that was cost effective to buy. I think I paid the guy around 50 for the weld job.

Visited a local rim shop and they said they'd fix it for $50. Not bad for a rim job :P

Well I, for one, would like to see the 'after' picture of the repair. Not to question the repair, just curiosity of how it turns out.

We have a shop here in Spokane called the Wheelman. He straightened two of my rims. Then welded a crack. Yes, it can be done.it takes specialized equipment. So it's $125 per rim, here. But you can buy another one on ebay for just a little bit more. I bought for a spare.
