I just picked up a 2002 z06 and I was wondering if there are any local (BOISE, ID) ppl that would be willing to look at my ride and try to diagnose a squeak I'm having on rev and deceleration. I just replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner, was thinking about buying a stethoscope but you can't really use that on on the pulleys or moving parts. Any help or suggestions how I can pin point this problem would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Have you looked at your harmonic balancer for (the dreaded) wobble?
If you have a wobble, that could be a significant contributor to any squeak.
I looked at the balancer, not seeing any wobble. Does look like the stock one though. the z has 100k miles, maybeI'll just do that along with the idler pulley. is the water bottle squirt test the best way to really pinpoint the sound? thanks Bill
You replaced one belt only? If so, remove the other and run the motor.
If the noise stays remove the biggy and turn all pulleys by hand, any noises, how do they feel?
Gotta narrow it down...

i took off the ac belt and it’s still making the noise. I took off the accessory belt and turned all the pulleys the power steering pulley does feel like it is a little loose not when you try to wiggle side to side but when you turn it one way then the other way in a circular motion in makes a minor sounds like a loose bearing. Could this cause the squeak? The squeak mainly occurs during deceleration (in gear) just enough to be annoying. Thanks for the help!
100% on the Continental Elite belt. I tried Dayco or something and had a squeak way too soon after, replaced both with Elite, still good 3 years later. Sounds like the PS pulley might be the culprit though.
Thanks for the tips gentlemen, I replaced the ac belt, serpentine, accessory idler pulley, and main tensioner. The culprit is definitely a pulley on the main belt drive. The Continental comes in next week if that’s not it I guess I’ll have to go for the PS! So frustrating. I’m trying to hear it on the stethoscope but it’s hard for me to differentiate the sounds. Does the alternator always sound high pitched through a steth? The PS was a little high priced but idk what “normal” is. I appreciate all your help for this vette newb here!
