Purchased an 04 C5 with 70k miles on the clock last week. It's my first vette so the whole car is new to me but I am mechanically inclined. I've noticed a clunk in the driveline somewhere that sounds like some sort of slack or worn part in it. It happens when just lugging through parking lots in first gear while the inertia of the car is going back and forth on the driveline and when I'm shifting whenever the shift is not perfectly smooth. Planning on getting a cross member adaption for my jack today so I can get underneath and check everything over. What ate the common problems for such symptoms? I read that a clunking noise is normal while launching C5s so is this normal?
It may be a sign that the rubber couplers in the torque tube are going bad. Any vibrations? That would be the next indicator for the TT. Also check the rear Axel nuts, CV joints, Upper/Lower rear A-frame bolts/bushings, and just for good measure the bolt that hold the rear cradle (that holds the trans/diff). There that should keep you busy for a couple of hours.
I have the same clunk, pop noise. And i've been told to check my rear sway bar. Not sure if it could even be the problem but i need to check that. Maybe someone can confirm if the sway bar not being torqued down to spec is a possibility.

If you take off the rear tire you will see on the center of the spindle a large nut (use a 34mm socket) usually covered in rust.
Whats happening is the nut gets a little loose and the axle’s splines where they slide into the rear spindle move a little and that’s the pop sound. Tighten the nut to 118ft lbs.
