When you had belts off, did you check the pulleys?
Does your tensioner move around alot when idling?

ticking can be an exhaust leak

How would changing belts create an exhaust leak?

tuck, tickle, tick is subjective, so perhaps it's just pointing out one of the many cause for odd sounds, or to that poster, an exhaust leak sounds like tuck tickle tick...
.
Personally, I'd say ticking is injectors, and "agitated cricket" is the tensioner pulley

Tensioner, idler, harmonic balancer wobble. Sometimes a new belt will reveal an existing problem.

I cant see how it would be related either...but it doesn't change the fact that exhaust leaks sound like ticking

Spray water on the belt while it’s running to see if the sound goes away or is changed.

If it makes zero difference then you know it’s elsewhere.
